FAQ GUIDE BUY NEOPRENE SURF
Before buying a wetsuit there are 5 basic questions you should ask yourself:

1.- What time of year do I want the wetsuit?

Depending on the temperature of the water where you are going to surf you will be able to choose between a short-sleeved suit and a short leg suit up to an integral suit with a cap. The following water temperature guide can help you find the type of neoprene you need:

Less than 3ºC - 7 mm long neoprene, complemented with booties, gloves and neoprene cap.
Between 4ºC and 7ºC - 6/5 mm long neoprene, complemented with booties, gloves and neoprene cap.
Between 8ºC and 11ºC - 5/4/3 mm long neoprene, complemented with booties, gloves and neoprene cap.
Between 12ºC and 17ºC - 4/3 mm long neoprene, complemented with booties and neoprene gloves.
Between 12ºC and 17ºC - 3/2 mm long neoprene.
Between 18ºC and 20ºC - Neoprene of 2 mm being able to be with sleeve and short leg.
Between 21ºC and 25ºC - Swimsuit and lycra of neoprene of 1mm or more.
Above 26ºC - Swimsuit and T-shirt or lycra.
Broadly speaking the thickness of the suit is the most important factor in determining how hot a suit is. It is indicated in millimeters, with a combination of two numbers separated by a slash. The first number indicates the thickness of the suit on the chest part. The second indicates the thickness in millimeters of the extremities.

2.- How often will you wear it?

If you are one of those people who only surf on weekends or holidays, following our 7 basic tips to take care of your neoprene suit is very likely that the suit will hold you without losing its insulating properties. If you are one of those who surf daily and in winter, we advise you to buy a quality suit. The price difference between a decathlon neoprene and a oneill neoprene is noticeable.

If you want to know which are the best winter neoprene do not miss our comparison of Oneill vs Hurley vs Premium Wetsuits in our blog. SURF NEOPRENE OPINION section.

3.-What size to choose?

And finally, the big dilemma: the choice of the size of your wetsuit. A very important factor and that brands do not make us anything easy. Each surfsuit brand has its own size guide.

Problem: If we catch it loose, the most likely is that we get water and if we catch it too tight will not allow us to move easily.

4. How to get the right size?

To make it easier for you to get the right size with the table in Single Quiver we have developed a neoprene suit recommendator. Thanks to its simple questionnaire the correct size is guaranteed. We encourage you to try it.

5. With front zip, back zip or without zip?

There are 3 types of neoprene suit depending on its closure. With zipper in the chest, without zipper and with zipper in the back.

  • Back zip or Back Zip: very easy to put on, but cooler and less flexible than the zipper on the chest. They are usually the cheapest.
  • Chest zipper or Front Zip: warmer than the suits with rear zipper, as it avoids water infiltrations and also offers better flexibility. This type of zipper is the Hurley Advantage Plus.
  • Without a zipper or Zip Free: these are the last ones to reach the market. They are more flexible and correspond to the top-of-the-range models of the brands. They offer a wider range of movement and are warmer than the previous ones. Example without zipper the Hyperfreak Comp of the Oneill brand.

6. Sealing

The type of seal that the neoprene wears will depend on whether more or less water penetrates into the interior of the suit and whether it lasts more or less.

  • The basic neoprene is usually made with flat seams (Flatlock). These seams are clearly visible from the outside of the suit and allow plenty of water to pass through. Example: decathlon neoprene suit. Priman the lowering of costs versus the quality and durability of premium brands in the market.
  • Mid-range wetsuits are manufactured with a gluing system and blind seams (Sealed). In other words, the panels are sewn blind and then glued to prevent water from entering through the seams. Example: mid-range neoprene of all brands.
  • High-end wetsuits have seams sealed with a special rubber (Sealed and Taped). This prevents water from seeping through the seams and helps keep warm air trapped inside. It is the hottest method. An example of this suit is the Oneill Psycho One Fuze. A wetsuit whose review and opinion you can read in our blog. Section Neoprenos.

A tip, do not skimp when buying a wetsuit. After the purchase of the surfboard, it will be the most important purchase you make. If you have doubts about how to take care of and extend the life of your wetsuit, don't forget to visit our post 7 tips to take care of your wetsuit.
