The Carver Gray Ray Surfskate is part of the new MODERNISM collection by Carver 2020. A tribute to the artists Charles and Ray Eames, creators of some of the most iconic contemporary works ever made. Their most groundbreaking works are just a few streets away from the Carver design studio in Venice,CA.

Like a soft river stone, the shape of this mini flows between space and time and transports us through miles with an elegance that inspires our own artistic movements through the canvas of modernity.

We believe that his experiments in bentwood are part of an untold story that led to innovations that many years later produced modern skate decks. They have been an immense inspiration to us, and a yardstick for our own aspirations. This pair of boards is our tribute to those design giants. In his time Charles received most of the credit for his work, but Ray was in fact the artist of the pair, integrating his painting and sculpture styles into textiles and furniture created by his studio. For this series we combined the rounded rectangle reminiscent of his famous bentwood chairs with an original interpretation of one of Ray's early paintings.
