Technical Features of the Channel Islands Twin Pin
The Channel Islands Twin Pin has a fairly traditional outline with a pin tail that stands out above all. Here are its main technical characteristics:
Nose
- Wide nose for good paddling ability.
- Unlike more traditional twin fins, the Twinpin's nose is more similar to that of a shortboard.
Edges
- Tapered edges, this contributes to the easy ride and flow that twin fins provide.
- The rails are low, so most people ride the Twin Pin at least 1/8" thicker than their usual shortboard.
Tail
- pin tail provides grip and drive in the most solid and demanding wave conditions.
Concave
- The bottom of the board is virtually flat until the height of the fins, where a V-shaped concave is introduced and exits through the tail, creating a board that is responsive and solid.
The best fins for the Al Merrick Twin Pin
Britt designed a set of twin fin twin fins with hand foils to fit between a keel and an upright keel to work best with this CI Twin Pin, providing the right balance of drive, grip and manoeuvrability, and flow, the Britt Merrick Twin fins.

What size Twinpin do we recommend?
The Twin Pin can be ridden with various dimensional approaches depending on what you want to do, ride and feel. Mikey February surfs a 6'0" short board and likes his Twin Pins in 5'9" and 5'11" to suit any conditions in the world. Tanner Gudauskas likes the same length as his normal short board for Trestles, and Britt likes to ride his Twin Pins at Rincon a couple of inches longer than his normal short boards.
Most people ride the Twin Pin at least ⅛" thicker than their short board as the rails are low.
