The BV2 Chilli Surfboards BV2 Surf Board

Here’s what we liked most about the Chilli surfboard after testing it:

Pros
  • Agile and maneuverable and
  • Super fast even on the flattest sections of the wave.
  • A great choice as a summer surfboard and for small waves
  • Easy to surf, for all levels
  • Great paddling power thanks to its wide nose
  • Plenty of area for easy aerial planing
Contras
  • Not a high performance board

Which fins do we recommend for this Chilli board?

In stronger and bigger waves, in the 3 or 4 feet range, we recommend the use of trifin or thruster fins, preferably fins with a more stretched template, with more rake such as the FCS CI Up Right or Futures Alpha, as they offer more stability and control.

The BV2 also works very well in weak waves with the 2+1 configuration, as does the Sharp Eye Modern 2. In this case, we recommend the FCS 2 Mark Richards and in Futures Al Merrick Twin

In testing the board with our team, we highlighted the use of a set of thruster fins. Xico tested the board with Futures Fins Alpha fins. It is a very interesting combination that offers more grip in the turns and allows for vertical maneuvers in the pocket.

FEATURES OF THE BV2 CHILLI

Echemos un vistazo a las características de esta tabla:

  • Outline: The BV2 features a full outline for more paddling power and speed in the steeper, more voluminous sections of the wave. The middle section of the board has a smooth and attractive curve, with the widest point located slightly further forward than on a conventional board.
  • Tail: As for the tail, Chilli has eliminated the semi flyers found on the original Black Vulture. This results in a straighter edge line to the swallow, which provides more grip and control throughout the turns.
  • Rocker: The board features a flat to medium rocker in both the front and back. The tail rocker is slightly lower than on the Black Vulture, giving the BV2 a bottom end that generates more speed.
  • Cóncave: From a single concave to the last third of the board, where it becomes a very smooth double concave. This provides balance and a friendly feel at the bottom of the board.
  • Performance:The Black Vulture has received great feedback from the Chilli Surfboards Team surfers. We have found it to be an incredibly fast board even on the flatter wave sections. An incredible board for your summer quiver.

And now let’s analyze point by point the main features of the Chilli BV2

OUTLINE

The BV2 outline starts with a full nose, wider and with more volume than high performance boards. This gives it excellent paddling power and makes it easier to get into the waves. Its outline is well balanced, being more curved than other boards, which tend to be very parallel. However, its widest point is a little ahead of the middle of the board.

Moving on to the back of the board, a major difference between the Black Vulture and its predecessor is the elimination of the false wing, that break line that the original Black Vulture had. Thus, the outline of the BV2 tail is straighter, closing in the swallow tail, which with its two tips greatly enhances control and traction in curves.

Its canards are medium and more rounded from the nose to before the fins, giving good stability to the surfer without getting tangled in the middle of the turns. In the final region are more refined and with a sharper edge, favoring the momentum and safety in carving and maneuvers, leaving it more responsive.

CONCAVES

Compared to the lower part of the original Black Vulture, this model has a modified lower part and does not have the curve at the end of the tail. In the case of the BV2, it starts with a single concave near the nose that reaches all the way to the surfer’s front foot area, offering good support and also great acceleration.

From there and extending to the fins comes the double soft concave, responsible for making the board more maneuverable and loose, favoring changes of direction. By no longer having the V behind the third keel, the BV2 is a little less playful than its predecessor. However, it is safer at high speed, especially in turns.

ROCKER

The BV2 has a stepped rocker in the center. Its entry curve is low and long, as is its tail rocker. In fact, it has less tail rocker than the Chilli BV, which further increases its speed, especially in the weak parts of the waves.

La marca: Chilli Surfboards

Chilli Surfboards was born in 1995 by the hand of the shaper and founder James Cheal in Australia. Today Chilli surfboards have become one of the leading surf brands on the international scene. Quality, innovation, attention to detail and meticulous R & D work.

The Shaper Behind Chilli: James Cheal

James Cheal shaped his first surfboard at the age of 22. Apparently this first creation was a bit crazy, but the following ones were a success. The long road of his shaper career continued and Chilli, as he is known, never looked back. Little by little his fame grew in Australia and he has ended up becoming one of the most prestigious shapers in the world.
