Al Merrick Fever

The goal of designing this board with Mike Andrews and Patrick Gudauskas was to create a high-performance board more accessible to anyone who climbed on it. A surfboard that would "instantly feel the speed and enthusiasm for creativity". Borrowing Pat's favourite elements from Proton, Rookie and MBM, and combining them with a subtle, concave, lower rocker, the result has been a surfboard with a huge sweet spot. Al Merrick's Fever has proven to be a complete design that excels in a wide range of conditions and wave types.

Overview in the words of Patrick Gudauskas: "The Fever was born out of the desire to create a complete performance board based on the elements I like, speed, handling and style. My goal in designing this board with Mike Andrews and Channel Islands was to create a surfboard that would allow me to surf in almost all conditions and have a good time on it. I wanted a Tour Performance board that was more accessible than anyone who climbed on it instantly felt the speed and enthusiasm for creativity.

Technical Features Al Merrick Fever

The board originated from the Remix (Rookie/MBM) that I surfed for several years on the World Tour. I loved these designs, but I wanted more speed and handling. We cut nose and tail rockers to flatten the design and allow it to fly. We added a single concave and a tail template inspired by the MBM CI, one of my favorite surfboards of all time. The intention was to give the surfboard the speed and control of the rear 1/3 of the surfboard, so it could be fast, but also dominate in large sections and hollow waves. The goal, turn it into a surfboard sweet, reliable and easily accessible to get the maximum style.

Background on how Fever emerged from Channel Islands: La Fever means speed and driving. I, as a surfer on the Channel Islands team since I was 16, have tried almost every model that Al Merrick and CI Surfboards have designed. More recently, I had been looking for a board that could encompass all my favorite boards in a single surfboard. I wanted it to be easily accessible to find the sweet spot and stay inspired to surf creatively in all conditions, whether it's a small beach break on the beach or a perfect 6 - 8 foot tubero break. In the years prior to the FEVER, I spent a lot of time on the world tour surfing really good waves. I spent a lot of time surfing boards like the Rookie, the Proton, the T-low and the MBM. What I realized was that each board, in its own way, served a style of waves that I was surfing.

The Proton felt incredible in hollow or powerful waves where the curve of the board adapted to the curvature of the face of the wave, but when the wave flattened suddenly it felt like it was pushing the water or losing speed.

The Rookie/Rook15 was amazing on the Bells Beach style waves, where there was an open face for bows and big turns, but for me it was fighting on the punchy quick beach break style waves. I was discovering that in my quiver I had a board that was one or the other, but not both. This is where the Fever, of the desire for a complete performance board based on the elements I like, speed, driving and style.

My goal in designing this board with Mike Andrews and Channel Islands was to create a board where you could surf in almost all conditions and have a good time. I wanted a Tour Performance board that was more accessible than anyone who climbed on it instantly felt the speed and enthusiasm for creativity. For the design, we lowered the rockers from my boards, added a little hip to the tail to give it maximum speed and control. With a single concave contour and simple, .

The Fever has become my favorite surfboard. In my mind, the Fever is a Speed, Flair, and Drive board with a reliable sweet spot for supreme fun. A surfboard for maximum enjoyment! .
